Palmer Ranch is a master planned community in Sarasota County, Florida between the cities of Sarasota and Osprey. Palmer Ranch encompasses approximately 6,733 acres, bounded by Clark Road to the north, U.S. Route 41 to the west, Interstate 75 to the east, and State Road 681 to the south. The area was part of the original 80,000 acres (320 km2) of Florida land purchased by Bertha Honoré Palmer, wife of Chicago businessman Potter Palmer.

Palmer Ranch of Sarasota, FL is a community of over 90 subdivisions, apartment communities and assisted-living facilities, and encompasses numerous commercial, recreational and religious organizations. Located south of Clark Rd, and covering approximately 60 square miles between the I-75 and Tamiami Trail, Palmer Ranch is called home by over 20,000 residents.

Totaling nearly 12.5 miles in length, the trail runs from just south of the city of Sarasota to Venice following the former CSX railroad corridor. The Legacy Trail is the backbone of a network of trails planned in Sarasota County. The trailhead of this linear park which bisects Palmer Ranch, is located off McIntosh Road. Potter Park is another beautiful 37-acre neighborhood park conveniently located on Palmer Ranch. Others include Culverhouse Nature Park and Community Garden and Stoneybrook Nature Trail.

The development, the largest in Sarasota, has received State and National recognition as an exemplary community and a model of state-of-the-art planning. The Palmer Ranch Master Association has been a recipient of the Sarasota Garden Club’s Civic Beautification Award in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2015 as well as the American Award.
